Modeling Subject-Specific Formant Transition Patterns in / / Sequences
نویسندگان
چکیده
Careful observation reveals that the formant transition patterns in a particular VCV sequence vary according to subjects. It is the case in /a a/ uttered by French speakers. This variation can be explained by the realization of acoustically equivalent but differently articulated / / or /a/ segments and their combination. This paper reports an acoustic simulation experiment aiming at replicating this phenomenon. The results are compared to simultaneous ultrasound tongue contour data and discussed in the perspective of speech inversion.

Sex-specific fundamental and formant frequency patterns in a cross-sectional study.
An extensive developmental acoustic study of the speech patterns of children and adults was reported by Lee and colleagues [Lee et al., J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 105, 1455-1468 (1999)]. This paper presents a reexamination of selected fundamental frequency and formant frequency data presented in their report for ten monophthongs by investigating sex-specific and developmental patterns using two differ...
متن کاملFormant transition-specific adaptation by lipreading of left auditory cortex N1m.
To test for the feature specificity of adaptation of auditory-cortex magnetoencephalographic N1m responses to phonemes during lipreading, we presented eight healthy volunteers with a simplified sine-wave first-formant (F1) transition shared by /ba/, /ga/, and /da/, and a continuum of second-formant (F2) transitions contained in /ba/ (ascending), /da/ (level), and /ga/ (descending), during lipre...

متن کاملProduction of English Lexical Stress by Persian EFL Learners
This study examines the phonetic properties of lexical stress in English produced by Persian speakers learning English as a foreign language. The four most reliable phonetic correlates of English lexical stress, namely fundamental frequency, duration, intensity, and vowel quality were measured across Persian speakers’ production of the stressed and unstressed syllables of five English disyllabi...
متن کاملThe Effect of Stress and Speech Rate on Vowel Coarticulation in Catalan Vowel-Consonant-Vowel Sequences.
PURPOSE The goal of this study was to ascertain the effect of changes in stress and speech rate on vowel coarticulation in vowel-consonant-vowel sequences. METHOD Data on second formant coarticulatory effects as a function of changing /i/ versus /a/ were collected for five Catalan speakers' productions of vowel-consonant-vowel sequences with the fixed vowels /i/ and /a/ and consonants: the ap...
